It looks like there is red in the breast
He looks to have a weak wing bay
    Short tail feathers
    Not much tail
  • Thanks for the imput. His tail is just coming back. Kept in a very small cage before I got him. I hadnt paid attention to the red in the breast. Like I said I'm a newbee and have a long way to go. Anybody in Kentucky have any Wheatons to part with?
  • The bird is past his show age.
  • Like Kjundog said, past show age, but could be a very useful breeder. Most Wheaten males get red in their breast as they age.
  • Who in Ky would be good to talk to about showing birds? Or would be willing to mentor someone just getting started in showing OEG. Ive been bit by the bantam bug for sure and want to start out on the right track
  • Lonnie Feltner is a real nice young man. His user name on here is bantam.
  • Thanks again for the info kjundog. I'll give him a shout.

I really like his width of tail feathers...I like it when they still have that good tail when they are cocks...I know some of the breeders like James cooper seem to always have older cocks that keep the good width of feather in tails and show well as cock birds...I guess the way to get that is to breed form cock birds...My Birchens have good tails as cockerels but im trying to work with them to get them to keep it when cocks....So i guess some just have it breed into there line of birds
